Look It's A Mock Draft!

Image
Good evening league-mates. This evening's Fantasy Report with Carl is a special one.  To begin, I want to discuss for all you amateur  ornithologist, the  Mimus Polyglottos, or Mockingbird. It's quite a popular avian, for reasons that I'm not sure of. Maybe it's because of Harper Lee's novel, or the Eminem song. Or maybe even a popular Tik Tok that is floating around. Either way, it's name alone contains the reason for today's Fantasy Report.  The second topic, which is definitely more fitting to our purpose today is the Mock Trial. Did you all know that Mock Trials date to 14th century Britian to help aspiring lawyers? Now you do.  Now to the meat and potatoes of today's Fantasy Report: Our 2nd Annual Mock Draft, presented by Johnny, Patrick, and myself.  PLEA Round 1 - Johnny 1. Johnny -  Ja'Marr Chase As the highest scoring non-Quarterback last year, Johnny will hope that level of dominance continues for this upcoming season.  2. Jenna - Justin...

It's June, and I'm Feeling Frisky...or Anxious

Hello, League-Mates! And welcome to a very special addition of "The Fantasy Report with Carl". I want to extend a more formal welcome to the new league members. This "Report" is more like a reflection that I compose from time-to-time. I will not lie, sometimes I feel like these reflections are Pulitzer Prize winners. More often than not I feel as if I have done a great service for my fellow league-mates. Whether you agree is for you to decide, not me. Will this be a Pulitzer Prize winner? I don't think so, but maybe over the course of the next few paragraphs it will morph into something that makes you truly sit back and think. I digress.  Our league has officially expanded to 12-teams. It is a new chapter for us (I could quote a particular line from a very famous Bob Dylan song right now, but I would rather be forced to listen to a Maroon 5 album than give that arrogant, self-righteous prick any unknowing satisfaction of getting any recognition in my blog). We ...

Week 4 Review

Hello League-Mates! And welcome to a special addition of the "Fantasy Report with Carl".  As many, if not all of you, have noticed; I have broken away from the traditional weekly blog. To be honest, it is very difficult to write a new, exciting, mind-bending, thought-provoking, blog every week. I simply don't have the time or muses to do so.  I have explained in many of my blogs that my inspiration comes from TV shows, movies, books, or songs. To be quite honest, it's actually books that entice my inner workings of a wannabe novelist/columnist. Yes, believe it or not, at one time in my life I did want to be a writer. It has always appealed to me, particularly when I read a book or article that is so beautifully written and articulated. They truly make me appreciate the intelligence of men and women alike. And as much as I may appreciate those writers and their God-given skills, I do become jealous. For example, who the hell does Paulo Coelho think he is? Writing such ...

The Day the League Stood Still

Image
Good morning, League-Mates and welcome to a special addition of the Fantasy Report with Carl.  I have spent the last few weeks brainstorming a topic for this Fantasy Report. I have always delved into my hobbies, interests, and personal lexicon of pop-culture for inspiration. So, sit back, relax, and strap it down because The Fantasy Report with Carl is coming at you.  From out of this blog, a warning, and an ultimatum! That line is slightly altered to match this blog. It comes from the movie poster of a personal favorite movie of mine (and to be honest, one of the great sci-fi movies ever created), "The Day the Earth Stood Still". How could Klaatu and Gort (Gnut if you are aware of the short story "Farewell to the Master" upon which the film was based) relate to Fantasy Football? It's fairly simple, but I want to make this as complicated as I can.  It wasn't too long ago that a few of us set out to create a fun league with co-workers. The buy-in was $50, and...

It's a bird! It's a plane! NO! It's a Mock Draft!

Good day League-Mates! And welcome to a very special addition of "The Fantasy Report with Carl"! We are a month away from Draft Day, and to be very honest with all of you, I am beyond excited! Considering everything that is going on in the world, it feels like more than ever we need football back in our lives.  I was speaking with Patrick recently and had told him that I was suffering from a case of Writer's Block. He suggested that maybe a mock draft would be a fun exercise and might cure my Writer's Block. Therefore, I decided to take up that challenge and enrolled the help of Johnny and Patrick in order to tackle such a task.  Please keep in mind that I gave them some specific instructions when writing their mocks.  1. For the sake of the exercise, please ignore keepers.  2. Add a little note below the pick, and don't hold back any punches. 3. Johnny was assigned the first round, Patrick was assigned the second round, and I took the third round.  So, sit back...

Week 11 Review

Image
Hello, League-Mates! Welcome to a very special addition of the Fantasy Report with Carl! It's Thanksgiving Day, and I am sure that all of you are looking forward to eating as much as possible and sitting back and watching football. One thing I will say that I am thankful for is that the Bears aren't playing today, and I don't have to have my Thanksgiving dinner ruined by awful coaching. Seriously, how the hell does Matt Eberflus not think that he's getting fired after the season?  Anyways, I wanted to take a look back and say a few things that I am grateful for: 1. Fantasy Football. My life would not be complete without Fantasy Football. I cannot describe how much I love it, despite constantly getting kicked in the nuts by it. I believe it was once me who stated to Johnny, "I like Fantasy football." Don't believe me? Ask Johnny. Or don't. Whatever, it's a free country.  2. My League-Mates. Yes, that's right, I am thankful for all of you. If it...

Week 10 Review

Image
Hello, League-Mates, and welcome to the Week 10 Review.  I want to start off by saying that I nearly defeated Johnny this week, and it if weren't for a combination of horrible refs and the Jets offense lacking the ability to get out of their own way, I would have walked away victorious. That just goes to show how narrow the margin of victory is from defeat.  I am truly amazed at how much the league has started to turn into an even race. I really believe that if I had defeated Johnny, the league would look a lot more open this week than it currently does. The great thing about this weekly review is that it allows for me to look back and see how things were looking on a particular week, and as well as a week-by-week basis.  As I looked back through the annals of the season, it was me who proclaimed that it was a two-horse race between Johnny and Patrick. I believe that I not only wrote myself off, but a large majority of you, my faithful readers, as well. Do I blame m...
