Good day League-Mates! And welcome to a very special addition of "The Fantasy Report with Carl"! We are a month away from Draft Day, and to be very honest with all of you, I am beyond excited! Considering everything that is going on in the world, it feels like more than ever we need football back in our lives.
I was speaking with Patrick recently and had told him that I was suffering from a case of Writer's Block. He suggested that maybe a mock draft would be a fun exercise and might cure my Writer's Block. Therefore, I decided to take up that challenge and enrolled the help of Johnny and Patrick in order to tackle such a task.
Please keep in mind that I gave them some specific instructions when writing their mocks.
1. For the sake of the exercise, please ignore keepers.
2. Add a little note below the pick, and don't hold back any punches.
3. Johnny was assigned the first round, Patrick was assigned the second round, and I took the third round.
So, sit back and enjoy our 2024 Mock Draft of The League!
1: John Sr
Christian McCaffrey RB 49ers
Having the ability to roster McCaffrey is a can't miss pick. He's the consensus first overall pick so there's no reason to expect a different pick here at 1.1
2: Kaleigh
Justin Jefferson WR Vikings
With uncertainty looming for teammate Jordan Addison and his off-the-field actions, the prospect of Jefferson having an elite fantasy season is fathomable. Kaleigh will welcome Jefferson to her team with open arms.
3: Caleb
Tyreek Hill WR Dolphins
Caleb will select what he believes to be the best player available. Hill remains a dynamic threat and didn't show any signs of slowing down last season.
4: Jenna
CeeDee Lamb WR Cowboys
Can't go wrong with a player of Lamb's caliber. He's among the elite fantasy wide receivers heading into 2024 so the pick here is justifiable.
5: Larry
Jahmyr Gibbs RB Lions
Larry saw the potential of Gibbs first hand with having him on the roster. This pick could be viewed as a surprise but with Larry picking in the middle of every round he'll take his shot here at adding a potential elite fantasy RB.
6: Carl
Ja'Marr Chase WR Bengals
Chase has the potential to be a top fantasy WR. Does Carl believe that Joe Burrow will avoid a big injury in three consecutive seasons? He bets on it.
7: Ian
Bijan Robinson RB Falcons
Robinson is a solid selection here at pick seven but will he fulfill the itch that Ian needs based on previous first round selections?
8: Kory
Amon-Ra St. Brown WR Lions
Solid selection here as St. Brown always provides solid performances for PPR fantasy owners.
9: Patrick
Breece Hall RB Jets
Workhorse running backs are hard to come by so it should come as no surprise that Patrick adds a player like that at the back end of round 1.
10: Johnny (Champion)
Puka Nacua WR Rams
Adding a young potential star wide receiver is too hard for me to pass on and is a strong start to a new build.
11. Johnny - RB Saquon Barkley - Barkley moves from a stagnant Giants offense to one of the top run-blocking units in the NFL with his hometown Eagles. Johnny sees huge potential here.
12. Patrick - WR AJ Brown - Brown was almost unstoppable in the first half of 2023, with over 127 yards receiving in each game from weeks 3-8. However, he and the rest of his offense slowed down in the second half. Despite this, Brown is still in the prime of his career.
13. Kory - RB Derrick Henry - Kory never saw a running back that he didn’t like, and he thinks he's getting a future Hall of Famer here. Henry has elite upside in short-yardage and goal-line situations, of which there should be many in his first season with the perennial powerhouse that is the Baltimore Ravens.
14. Ian - WR Garrett Wilson - We all know that Ian has an unnatural love for the Green Bay Packers. With this pick, he chooses to grab a piece of an offense that will be led by his good friend Aaron Rodgers. Assuming Rodgers' Achilles is fully recovered, Wilson is a strong WR1 with the potential to finish in the top 5.
15. Carl - WR Davante Adams - Carl decided to double down by selecting two wide receivers in a row to start his draft. Many people in the NFL still believe that Adams is the best receiver in the league, even though he is now over 30. After a tough season where the Raiders had trouble getting him the ball regularly, Adams is definitely looking to show the rest of the NFL that he is still a dominant player.
16. Larry - RB Jonathan Taylor - JT has struggled with staying healthy over the past two seasons. In addition, he had a contract dispute that kept him out for the first 4 weeks of the 2023 season. Nevertheless, he is only 25 years old and now faces little competition on the Colts' RB depth chart.
17. Jenna - WR Marvin Harrison Jr - Let's face it, Jenna just learned about MHJ on draft day, but the rest of us are already familiar with his size and skill set. He comes to Arizona as the clear top choice in the passing game and, despite being a rookie, he could be among the most targeted players in the NFL.
18. Caleb - RB Kyren Williams - In 2023, Kyren was a pleasant surprise. After kicking Cam Akers’ ass to the curb, Williams became the overall RB2 in points per game, dominating touches in the Rams' backfield. Despite the addition of Blake Corum to the roster, it looks like the Kyren show will continue.
19. Kaleigh - WR Drake London - After the unsuccessful (and incredibly frustrating for fantasy purposes) experiment with Arthur Smith in ATL, London receives an overhauled offense and a new QB in Kirk Cousins. His potential is enormous.
20. John Sr - RB Travis Etienne Jr - John Sr returns to the well and chooses Etienne for the third consecutive season. His position as the top option for the Jaguars' running game remains unchanged. If he can achieve more consistent performances on a weekly basis, it wouldn't be surprising to see him improve on his 2023 RB7 finish.
21. John Sr - WR Deebo Samuel - John Sr. started out traditionally by going RB-RB in rounds one and two. He needs a receiver, and why not draft a guy who can run the ball as well? Deebo is the best receiver in San Francisco, and with Aiyuk holding out for a new contract, Samuel screams upside and comes at quite the bargain.
22. Kaleigh - RB Isiah Pacheco - Kaleigh started out drafting two WRs and is dangerously close to heading into the RB Dead Zone if she doesn't act quickly. Therefore, Pacheco is a no-brainer here for Kaleigh.
23. Caleb - RB Rachaad White - The only reason Caleb drafts White here is because there isn't a Steeler within this part of the draft, and RBs are going to become more and more difficult to come by.
24. Jenna - WR Mike Evans - During our draft Jenna is a lot like that chimp that learned signed language, I think its name was Coco the Monkey. Anyways, the reason I say is because Mike Evans is a recognizable name like sign language was recognizable to the beloved Coco.
25. Larry (Dad) - WR Jaylen Waddle - Dad needs a WR, and Waddle is the perfect choice. Waddle only had (2) top five finishes last year, as a matter of fact those (2) finished were the only ones inside the top-10 as well. However, if Hill misses any time, it should be the Waddle show, and Miami has a great offense. Waddle has to be the pick right here.
26. Carl - RB Joe Mixon - We have our first reach of the draft, and quite early too. Mixon was sneaky good last year and is on an offense that should be top-10. I'm not afraid to flex my fantasy genius with this pick.
27. Ian - TE Travis Kelce - When this pick happens, everyone just sit back and shut up because this is either going to wreck Ian's season or propel him into the play-offs. Kelce is on the wrong side of 30, and he's dating Taylor Swift. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can come good of it. But Ian is going to Ian here and reach hard for a TE he believes to be the best in the land.
28. Kory - WR Nico Collins - Theoretically, the pick should be Chris Olave, but Kory wants a part of the young Houston offense. Stroud proved last year that he can spread the ball around enough to feed everyone. Also, Kory wants to mad flex on the league about his starting WRs corps. You do you, Kory.
29. Patrick - WR Brandon Aiyuk - This is if Aiyuk stays in San Francisco. Patrick's mouth is watering seeing Aiyuk still available, and it's not a reach to draft him at 29 overall. I can see it now, Patrick putting his pick on the board, sitting back down and taking a sip of his body armor drink with a smirk on his face.
30. Johnny - WR Tank Dell - Johnny gives Carl a big ole middle finger by drafting Dell. And in return Carl doesn't buy Johnny a Christmas present this year, or next year. I digress. Olave and Kamara are still on the board but hoping that the Saints can resurrect their offense in the first year under a new OC might be asking a lot. Dell is the logical choice here, and adds to a strong WR corps for the defending champ.
There you have it, a Mock Draft for the ages!
I wish you all peace, love, and fantasy football prosperity.
Sincerely,
Carl (and Johnny, and Patrick)
