Week 2 Review

Hello League-Mates, and welcome to Week 2 of the Fantasy Report with Carl!

After my last Pulitzer Prize winning article, I believe it would be impossible to write another article that William Faulkner would envy. That being said, I decided to focus on a song by Mama Cass. Famously, she sings, "You've gotta make your own kind of music, sing your own special song, make your own kind of music, even if nobody else sings along".

Now what could Mama Cass have to do with Fantasy Football? Not much really. But it is important to remember that the road to victory, not only in Fantasy Football, but life, is so different for every person. Some may feel that drafting two workhorse running backs in the first two rounds is the best way to secure a championship. Others may feel that they can navigate the Fantasy landscape using the Zero RB or Hero RB approach. Smart waiver wire management, and key trades may be the strategy someone else deploys. Regardless we all have a different path that we want to take.

Every year, usually in the last week of August, we all set off on a journey individually, yet intrinsically intertwined with each other. We all have in our possession a map of terrain that is treacherous and surprisingly unknown, with the goal of reaching the top of the Fantasy Football mountain. (Please see the photo below for a perfect image of my metaphor)

Let's tie in the mountain metaphor to Mama Cass and splash in a hint of Fantasy Football.

We all need to take our own journey, or sing our song, to get there. Pay no mind to the traveler to the left of you, for they will veer off in their own direction. Pay no mind to the key of the other vocalist in the choir as you sing to an audience of one. It's difficult to keep the path when it seems that another path is the one of least resistance.

We are all in control of our own destinies even though Fantasy Football may have us believe differently. How many times have we had a great player go down for the season with an injury? How many players have been a flash in the pan? We've all been left holding the burnt-out cinders of a hopeful player. Just because something has gone wrong does not mean that we are doomed, and I do not care to differ from that belief.

Life's road is curvy, up and down, smooth and yet rocky, just like a Fantasy Football season. No one has yet to accomplish the perfect season in our league, proving that nothing ever goes the way it is meant to go. And just because you may borrow a chord from a blues pentatonic when someone else decides to stick in a major barre chord, doesn't mean that your song won't be beautiful. You just need to keep making your own kind of music and singing your own special song. In the end you are the one who truly will enjoy it, and that's the only music that needs to grace your ears.

I wish you all peace, love, and Fantasy Football prosperity.

Sincerely,

Carl
